TRUMBULL WORKS COMMERCIAL FIRE AT THE MALL
1/30/2007- At 20:31, Long Hill, Trumbull Center, and Nichols were dispatched to the Westfield Shopping Town (Trumbull Mall) for a reported fire in the food court. LH-4 was first on scene and reported to the fire control room. Squad 209 arrived at Door 4 and reported the mall was being evacuated. Three members of 209's crew went to investigate and found a moderate smoke condition with a fire in the ceiling near the Hot Topic store. The crew from 209 and Engine 201 stretched a 3 inch feeder line down the escalator, through the food court, and operated a hand line from a high rise pack. The mall's sprinkler system was able to knock down most of the fire. Crews from S-209, E-201, Engine 205, Ladder Tower 204 and TC Tower 104 were assigned to pull the ceilings in the area and check for extension. 204 also laddered the roof and checked the area above the fire. Nichols Truck 304 and Rescue 200 were assigned as RIT. Engine 206 secured the standpipe for the sprinkler zone units were operating in. Satellite 203, TC Engine 103 and Rescue 100, and Nichols Engine 301 and Quint 303 assisted with salvage, water removal and other various task on the fire ground. LH-1 was command, Trumbull Car 3 was operations, LH-2 was safety, and Trumbull Car 4 was staging. The incident was under control at 21:19 and the last units were clear at 22:52. Stepney Fire Department from Monroe and Shelton Fire Department's Huntington and Echo Hose provided fire coverage to the town while units were operating.

EXTRICATION AND EXTENSIVE CLEANUP ON THE MERRITT
1/29/2007- At 15:01, Long Hill and Trumbull Center were dispatched to Route 15 Northbound at exit 49 for a car fire. As units were signing on the air, Dispatch reported that the car fire was knocked down by PD but there was still a trapped victim in the other vehicle. Nichols was then added as special mutual aid for the extrication. Squad 209 was first on scene with LH-3 soon after. LH-3 took command and confirmed the single trapped occupant in a white Subaru split in two (pictured above). Trumbull Center Rescue 100's crew extricated the victim with assistance from crews from S-209, Engine 205 and Rescue 200. The victim was handed off to Trumbull EMS. After extrication was completed, units were released at their convenience with the exception of S-209, E-205, LH-2 and LH-3 who stayed on scene to assist State Police with an accident reconstruction. After State Police was finished, State DOT workers utilized a pay loader, 2 dump trucks, and a street sweeper to clean the fluid spill that was spread out 40 yards from the accident. Fire crews were clear of the accident at 19:03 and the northbound lanes were finally reopened after 4 hours of being shut down. Other units on scene: Engine 206, Nichols Car 2, Trumbull Center Car 1. SUV ROLLS INTO MEDIAN ON MERRITT PARKWAY
1/23/2007- At 12:31, Long Hill and Trumbull Center were dispatched to Route 15 at the French Town Road overpass for a rollover with possible extrication. LH-3 was first on scene and reported a car on its roof in the center median. He later reported the single occupant had been removed by passing motorists prior to the Fire Department's arrival. Engine 205 was the next unit on scene and stretched a protection line due to the victims proximity to the vehicle. Squad 209's crew assisted Trumbull EMS with patient care and helped package the patient who had a head injury. Rescue 200 also assisted on scene. Once the car was up righted by the wrecker, the gas tank of the vehicle ruptured and all units worked to contain the spill. The Parkway was cleared in under one hour. LH-3 was command.

FATAL HOUSE FIRE ON TASHUA LANE
1/15/2007- At 12:42 AM, Long Hill, Trumbull Center, and Nichols were toned out for a reported structure fire on Tashua Lane. As units were responding, dispatch reported multiple 911 calls and also reported people trapped. Trumbull Center Car-2 was first to arrive and reported a 1 story ranch with heavy smoke showing. He also found one occupant standing in the front doorway reporting someone was still in the house.
Engine 206 was first engine on scene and the crew split up. One crew stretched a line to combat the fire on the 1st floor and the other crew, with LH-1, started a primary search for the victim still inside. E-206's crew located a victim unconscious in the back bedroom and removed the victim. CPR was started, and she was transported to the hospital by Trumbull EMS.
Squad 209 laid in from the hydrant and stretched a line to the side of the house, forced the door and assisted in knocking down heavy fire on the first floor. Tower Ladder 204's crew made entry to the basement for search and rescue, and was met with a heavy fire load. They attempted to gain access to the 1st floor but the basement stairs had burned away. Trumbull Center Engine 103's crew stretched a line off E-206 into the basement and extinguished the basement portion of the fire. T-204 also made a secondary search on all floors and opened up the walls to check for extension. Nichols Truck 304 provided RIT.
All units working had the fire knocked down in under 15 minutes from arrival. E-206 and T-204 were held on scene to assist the Fire Marshal's with lighting while they investigated and overhauled the basement. Despite the efforts of the first in units, the rescued victim succumbed to her injuries a short time later at the hospital. The fire is under investigation by the Trumbull and State Fire Marshal's Office.

CAR VS. POLE
1/14/2007- At 19:26, Long Hill was called back to Madison Ave in the area of Saxony Dr for another motor vehicle accident. LH-2 was first on scene and reported a car vs. telephone pole with wires down in the roadway. LH-1, Rescue 200, and Squad 209 provided lighting and scene stabilization and awaited the power company. The accident victim was treated by AMR.
CAR LOSES CONTROL, ROLLS OVER ON MADISON AVE
1/14/2007- At 15:14, Long Hill was called out to Madison Ave in between Brittany Rd and Saxony Dr for a reported motor vehicle rollover. LH-2 was first to arrive, established command, and reported all occupants out. Engine 202 and Rescue 200 applied speedy dry to an antifreeze leak and other fluids. 2 vehicle occupants were treated by Trumbull EMS. All units were clear at 16:02.
NATURAL GAS INVESTIGATION AT MACY'S
1/14/2007- At 10:27, Long Hill was dispatched to Macy's at the Westfield Shopping Town for an odor of natural gas. LH-4, Squad 209 and Engine 206 made interior investigations. Tower Ladder 204 investigated roof-top units on the roof of Bennigan's and then the roof of Macy's. T-204's crew and a Southern Connecticut Gas technician located a leak in a heater unit in the penthouse of Macy's. The unit was shut down and the odor dissipated. All units were clear at 11:58. Other units on scene; LH-1, LH-2, Engine 205, Engine 202, and FM-3. LH-2 was command.
TRUCK TAKES OUT POLE, LANDS ON ROOF
1/11/2007- At 12:23 AM, Long Hill and Trumbull Center were dispatched to the area of Route 111 and Whitney Avenue for a motor vehicle accident with extrication. Trumbull Car 2 was first on scene and reported a telephone pole down in the roadway and pickup truck on its roof. The driver of the truck was able to free himself from the wreckage and was treated for injuries sustained by Trumbull EMS. Rescue 200 stabilized the vehicle and handled the wires down hazard. ELECTRICAL ODOR IN THE CENTER
1/10/2007- At 12:24, Trumbull Center, Nichols, and Long Hill were dispatched to the Trumbull Center Shopping Plaza for a reported odor of electrical burning. Trumbull Center Engine 103 and Nichols Engine 301 made interior investigations, and Engine 206's crew checked the roof. The cause of the odor was determined to be from an A/C unit on the roof which was shut down. Other units on scene; Trumbull Center Engine 102, Truck 104. Nichols Car 2 was command.
